6 of the 12 teams have already ended the suspense by announcing the names of their future adventurers. Thus, drivers dreaming of racing for Ferrari, BMW, Red Bull, Toro Rosso, Honda, and Prodrive saw their hopes go up in smoke when official announcements were made throughout the year. The identities of these drivers can be found in the site’s transfer section.
MOST COHERENT TRANSFER RUMORS, RANKED BY TEAMS:
At McLaren, Alonso will take leave to the delight of Rosberg.
At Williams, it would not be Alonso replacing Rosberg, but Renault’s test driver, Nelson Piquet Jr. Nakajima would have a good chance of continuing his development with this team.
At Renault, Alonso regains his seat that he missed so much, while pressing the eject button of Giancarlo’s seat.
At Super Aguri, Fisico might eventually find a refuge, also making Anthony Davidson unhappy in the process.
At Toyota, Timo Glock would have the heavy responsibility of refreshing Ralf Schumacher’s performances.
At Force India (formerly Spyker F1), Narain Karthikeyan, sharing the same nationality as the new team owner, could be preferred over Sakon Yamamoto.
UPDATE ON THE SITUATION OF DRIVERS CURRENTLY ON THE SIDELINES:
Fernando Alonso: coveted from all sides, he has no worries about his place in F1 in 2008. His preference leans towards the Renault team.
Heikki Kovalainen: His podium in Fuji gives him a strong chance of keeping his seat at Renault.
Nico Rosberg: Team bosses have spotted the genius within him: he is seen at McLaren to replace Alonso.
Adrian Sutil: Despite his exploits on his Ferrari-powered scooter, Sutil suffers from the fierce competition in the market… a shame, because a move to Toyota could have made a certain Franck Montagny happy…
Giancarlo Fisichella: despite Flavio’s negotiations to place his playboy in Anthony Davidson’s spot, Fisico risks being politely thanked and shown the door from F1.
Nelson Piquet Jr.: His talent as a test driver at Renault has not gone unnoticed; an exchange with Rosberg could be possible.
Franck Montagny: after a brilliant career as a test driver, Franck predicts his future in the spotlight… Really? Is he the one who will be driving the safety car?
Vitantonio Liuzzi: sure of his talent, he is convinced that many team owners have noticed him… what he doesn’t seem to realize is that he is far from being the only one in the running…
Timo Glock: his GP2 triumph leaves a wide-open door for him in F1.
Kazuki Nakajima: Despite the fact that he still confuses F1 with bowling, Kazuki managed the luxury of clocking the same times as his teammate in his first Grand Prix. And when you have a teammate named Rosberg, you can be proud of achieving this kind of performance…
Sakon Yamamoto: with the small teams, the turnover of drivers is very high, whereas the big teams do not seem very convinced of Sakon’s potential.
Roldan Rodriguez: he was hired as a test driver at Force India, the team that does not have the financial means to participate in the tests…
Ralf Schumacher: he is going to take on a new challenge that he doesn’t even know himself yet… delivering pizzas in less than 20 minutes?
Narain Karthikeyan: although not very highly rated, he has the advantage of being Indian and interesting to the team of the same nationality…
Anthony Davidson: the world is cruel, and so is F1… Anthony risks being eaten alive by a Pac-Man named Fisico…
RESULT: 9 PILOT POSITIONS TO BE FILLED FOR 15 CANDIDATES:
When asked, they are all confident that they are the best and that they will have their place in F1 in 2008. However, it must be acknowledged that there will not be enough space for everyone.
As every year, there will be new names that will be more or less talked about. The 2008 Formula 1 vocabulary should be enriched with the following names: Kazuki Nakajima, Nelson Piquet Jr., Timo Glock, Narain Karthikeyan, Pedro de la Rosa, Gary Paffett, Franck Montagny, Roldan Rodriguez.
Similarly, some names might become outdated or even completely unused next year. Indeed, Giancarlo Fisichella, Alexander Wurz, Ralf Schumacher, Vitantonio Liuzzi, Anthony Davidson, and Sakon Yamamoto might no longer be in the picture…
