Sébastien Bourdais has promised to be competitive in F1 next season, and has admitted that the new regulations could work in his favor.
The four-time Champ Car champion will make a transatlantic move to leave the United States and join Toro Rosso in Italy to prepare for his first race scheduled in Australia on March 16.
And the Frenchman is aware of the challenges he will have to face.
« I am not a visionary, I cannot really say what will be the most difficult part of this next challenge, » he stated on crash.net.
« It will obviously be different from Champ Car, where everyone has the same car and it’s up to you and your team to do your best to beat the other drivers just by the adjustments. »
« In F1, it’s on a larger scale. You need the best design, you need the best engineering team to use the car to its maximum when it is on the track, » explained the Frenchman.
There are more people involved, so it’s a bit more complicated. But you know, it’s still a car with an engine and four wheels, and you have to be as fast as possible in the race. So, we will see how to achieve this goal.
The future 28-year-old driver claims that F1 and its new regulations could work in his favor.
When asked about the new FIA regulations, he replied: « I assume that the regulations are constantly evolving and I am also preparing to deal with them. »
« The officials are putting more things in the hands of the drivers, and it’s also up to us to dictate some changes in how you should set up the F1 cars. So, this could be even more interesting for the team, and I am already very happy that it is happening this way, » he continued.
On the other hand, Bourdais hopes to make a noticeable entrance.
He said: « I never said I wanted to come to F1 just to say that I participated in F1 races during my career. I want to be competitive and do my best. Now, it’s the beginning of a new adventure for me, and we’ll see how it goes. »
« But, for now, I will simply give my best as I did in Champ Car and we will see what actually happens, » concluded Bourdais.
