Ferrari director Jean Todt admitted that he doubted his team’s ability to win the drivers’ championship after a season start where the Scuderia faced some minor difficulties.

Kimi Räikkönen snatched the title from Lewis Hamilton after a spectacular Brazilian Grand Prix. The team boss told journalists at Mugello: « To tell the truth, I wouldn’t have bet on this victory. »

The brand based in Maranello lost several key staff members during the offseason between 2006 and 2007, including stars in terms of drivers like Michael Schumacher, as well as Ross Brawn.

Todt hinted that this was the reason why the F2007 suffered from poor reliability in the first half of 2007.

« For us, 2007 was a year of transition on many levels. The team was not cemented and organized, and we paid for it with all possible and imaginable seriousness, but I hope we will not repeat this experience next year, » he said.

The Frenchman also added that Ferrari is satisfied with what they have accomplished on the track, despite the impending decision of the Court of Appeal that could see Räikkönen lose his title.

« The ranking of drivers is not yet final, » regretted Todt.

« But for us, what is most important is having won the World Track Championship and no one can say otherwise, » concluded the Frenchman.
