BMW Sauber F1 Team has officially announced the promotion of Christoph Zimmermann as the new Chief Designer in the German team. The 39-year-old Swiss was currently a Mechanical Engineer.

Indeed, since Jorg Zander’s transfer to Honda as head of the design department, no one had held that position since March 2007… Therefore, it needed to be filled, and after careful consideration, Zimmermann was promoted.

It will allow Willy Rampf, the brand’s technical director, to focus solely on his tasks and will also support Mario Theissen in his new role.

Zimmermann had been in the German structure since 2000 as a « simple » engineer.

« It is a principle for us to promote people who deserve it whenever we can… » Declared the director of BMW Motorsport – Mario Theissen.

« This also allows us to send a strong signal to the other employees of the group. I am also delighted to have Christoph Zimmermann on the team. Now we will have highly qualified staff in our ranks who will occupy the position of Chief Designer, at the F1.08 design level ».
