Having become the new darling of the British, Lewis Hamilton announced that he will live abroad to escape the madness of the public and the excessive attention from the media. This is unfortunately the result of his year in F1 spent in the spotlight…

Hamilton came very close to becoming the first rookie in the history of the sport to become world champion as he ultimately finished the 2007 campaign one point behind Kimi Räikkönen.

However, Hamilton’s success on the tracks comes at a price, with the young Briton becoming one of the most recognizable faces in the press; he admits that it played a big role in his decision to move to Switzerland.

« When I arrived in the world of F1, I knew there were sacrifices to be made, » he stated on BBC airwaves.

« You lose your ability to go places, you don’t understand what that means until you’re there, and you really struggle to lead a normal life. »

« I haven’t been able to devote much time to my friends or family. This is not a normal job, you are traveling all the time, you never part from your suitcase. This is difficult to manage, which is why I want to try to live a normal life, » continued Hamilton.

When you return to your region and everyone knows you, it is much more difficult to do normal things. I can’t go to the cinema. I go to the restroom at a gas station and people come up to me asking for autographs.

« Over there, people don’t come to you, they leave you alone and give you space. I’m going to a country I don’t know, but it’s exciting, » concluded the pilot.

Hamilton is therefore another champion like Räikkönen, Alonso, or even Michael Schumacher moving to live in Switzerland, where the 22-year-old will also be able to take advantage of more favorable tax rules than those found in the United Kingdom!!

The announcement comes just one day after Hamilton’s hometown, Stevenage, decided to pay tribute to its new rising star by naming a street after the McLaren driver.
