Alonso has “a certain idea” about what he wants to do
Fernando Alonso remains and will remain until the official announcement of his choice and that of McLaren, the ultimate source of rumors. But the main person involved is also still quite vague about his future and plays his role to further intensify the speculations surrounding him.
The double world champion has now been approached by almost every team, with the latest rumors suggesting that he could be involved in a swap for cars with Nico Rosberg from Williams.
But even Alonso himself admitted that he still didn’t know where he was going to drive next year.
« There are many options available, we are all talking about them. I have an idea of what I want to do. I know what I’d like to do next year, but I don’t know if it’s possible, » he stated on Telecinco.
« Whatever happens, it will be a difficult season. »
Alonso returned to his hometown of Oviedo, Spain, over the weekend. He was greeted by the cheers of tens of thousands of fans who hailed the two-time world champion. He then spoke from a balcony.
« On this day, the tribute should be addressed to you, not to me, because even if I haven’t won, you make me the happiest in the world, » he told the crowd.
« Without you, I wouldn’t have the strength to try to win again next year. Instead, we will. »
« It will of course be difficult, but compared to others I am lucky to have you behind me to support me, as well as the whole of Spain. We will fight together, » concluded Alonso.
