According to the magazine Racing F1, Honda may be in a position to release Rubens Barrichello from their team and, if possible, to relegate him as a driver for their (b) team » Super-Aguri.
Aged over 35, the Brazilian driver allegedly no longer has the support of his team and, with his poor 2007 season, has lost all credibility with his team.
Indeed, only one GP out of 17 saw Barrichello overtake his teammate, Jenson Button, for the rest of the year, one of the veterans on the grid was not able to compete with the young Englishman.
His team has shown in recent races its ill will towards Barrichello. Mechanics, always in the same magazine disparaging their driver. “We think he’s afraid of driving… he should retire, shouldn’t he?” replied an engineer from the Japanese team to the English journalist’s microphone.
« Many veterans of the 2007 paddock give us the feeling that their time is over and that they should make way for others… Many in our team think this of Rubens. »
Barrichello, pushed out by Honda, could find an arrangement with Super-Aguri to drive as a main driver during the 2008 season. Especially since it is rumored that engineer Nicky Fry, currently with Honda, might move to Super-Aguri next season.
