Nico Rosberg is certain he has the necessary resources to face the future with confidence, he said after his contract with Williams was extended.

The German driver has signed a new agreement with Williams that allows him to stay with the British team until the end of 2009.

And even if it means he won’t be in the transfer market for another two years, Rosberg is convinced he made the right decision by staying where he is currently. It is worth noting that rumors had the German driver heading to McLaren where a seat is still available.

« There are many people who considered me a probable replacement for a double world champion! » declared Rosberg in the Gazzetta dello Sport regarding the speculations linking him with McLaren.

« I could have been an interesting candidate for McLaren-Mercedes. »

« Frank Williams probably would have made a good deal by releasing me, but the fact that he did not means that the team has enough resources to face the future serenely. »

He added: « It’s just a one-year extension. Frank Williams made me a great offer, I feel good within the team, and I am sure we will make more progress. »

Rosberg thinks, after two seasons in F1, that he now has enough experience to lead the team. In 2008, he will be alongside Kazuki Nakajima.

And he thinks that even Lewis Hamilton is not quite ready to take on the role of number one in his team.

« As a driver yes, but from a technical standpoint, he will not be able to be a true leader due to his lack of experience. One year in F1 is not enough, » declared Rosberg about Hamilton.
