The FIA seeks to end the espionage case between McLaren and Ferrari after expressing its intention to cancel the meeting of the World Motor Sport Council scheduled for February.
At the beginning of the month, the governing authority was unable to reach a decision regarding a possible sanction against McLaren concerning their 2008 cars and decided to postpone its decision to February 14 during the next meeting of the World Motor Sport Council.
However, McLaren apologized to the FIA and the Scuderia, and the information had circulated much more within the team than they had thought.
FIA President Max Mosley requested the World Motor Sport Council to cancel the February meeting.
« With McLaren’s public apologies, the President of the FIA asked the members of the World Motor Sport Council to cancel the hearing scheduled for February 14, 2008, and, in the interest of discipline, to review this matter internally, » said the FIA in a statement.
The FIA also released a copy of the report that it sent to the World Motor Sport Council.
A spokesperson for the FIA stated that a response from the World Council is expected next week.
