The team principal of Honda Racing, Ross Brawn, said he is undecided on the exact nature of his role on the track next year.
Brawn is considered a strategic genius, having helped Ferrari to secure all its victories and titles during its successful period before 2005.
Although his abilities and experience are probably an advantage for Honda in racing situations, Brawn has made it clear that he will not necessarily be involved if he feels that the team is already strong enough in this area.
« I need to know where the strengths and weaknesses of the team are on the track, » said Brawn, who only started working at Honda in November.
« We will have to see how the team functions. I would be happy to take on this role for the race, and I would be just as happy if someone else could do it. »
Brawn said that he played a less and less important role in strategy during his last season with Ferrari, as Luca Baldisserri was taking on more and more responsibilities in this area.
« As the years went by at Ferrari, Baldisserri worked only for me. Honda seems to have a good group of people working on strategy, and I hadn’t experienced this situation for many years. »
« We still need to see how we will organize ourselves within this team, » concluded Brawn.
