The relationship between Toyota and Williams in 2007 extended well beyond the supply and reception of engines, according to a senior official of the Japanese team.
Yoshiaki Kinoshita, Executive Vice President of Toyota, revealed in the Japanese company’s annual report that Sir Frank Williams was called to provide his advice last year.
Toyota also relied on the expertise of the Williams team in other areas, particularly for the development of the TF107 gearbox.
« Principal Frank Williams from the same team informed us repeatedly, particularly on matters related to strategic policy, which are so important in the world of F1, » said Kinoshita.
« After thirty years of experience in F1, Frank Williams has proven to be an excellent advisor for us and we are truly grateful for his contribution, » he added.
Kinoshita also acknowledged that Mr. Williams helped Toyota in developing programs aimed at young drivers, including Kazuki Nakajima who will have his first full F1 season in 2008.
« Having learned so much from Williams about how to ‘educate’ young drivers, we believe we made the right decision by entrusting Nakajima to the Williams team in 2007, » he said.
