Managing director Jean Todt claims that seven-time world champion Michael Schumacher declined the offer to replace him as the head of the Scuderia.

Todt left his role as sporting director at the end of last season to make way for Stefano Domenicali. Additionally, the team acknowledges having had long discussions with former technical director Ross Brawn throughout the 2007 season.

Questioned by the German magazine Auto Motor und Sport, Todt claims that Schumacher was the ideal person for his former position.

« He would have been the best candidate for this position, but he didn’t want it, » he stated about Schumacher.

Speaking about the reasons why the team did not reach an agreement with Brawn, Todt stated: « Ross is a very great man. His success with Ferrari speaks for itself. »

« We all talked together for some time about what was best for Ferrari and what was best for him. But it was in the interest of both parties, on a long-term basis, for Ross to leave for Honda and for us to replace him within the team. »

« Ross is now a competitor, but he will remain a friend to Ferrari and especially to myself. »

Todt also said that he intends to be present at a few races next year, but he has not yet decided on the exact number where he will have his part of involvement.

Over the past 15 years, I have dreamed of being able to watch a Grand Prix on TV in peace. For me, a Grand Prix will always be stressful. That will only change if I no longer have work.
