Giancarlo Fisichella firmly denies everything that has been said about him having managed to raise 10 million euros to somehow pay for his place in F1 for 2008 with Force India.
What was explicitly stated at the end of December is that the Italian, who will turn 35 in January, has amassed money to boost his chances of staying in F1 and being on the starting grid in Melbourne next March.
The Spanish sports daily Marca also claimed that Roldan Rodriguez had collected the same amount of money.
But on his personal site, Fisichella wrote a message specifically for all those who work for somewhat ‘creative’ media. The aim being to clear up some misunderstandings as he has not yet announced his future plans.
« I don’t pay to drive, I’m paid to drive, » said the Italian.
« I am not a sponsor for the team, the team brings the sponsors for me. »
« And if I had 10 million dollars, I would just as soon stay at home and watch F1 on TV! »
Fisichella arrived in Formula 1 in 1996 with the Minardi F1 team. After three years with Renault, the French team thanked the Roman at the end of last season for all the work he contributed. He won two races.
His future is increasingly leaning towards the Force India team, with whom Fisichella is expected to sign a contract. But patience is necessary, as the official announcement is not expected before January 11th…
