The next Formula 1 season will feature 18 events, which is one more opportunity than last year for the non-favorite teams to shine in the races. With the removal of the United States Grand Prix from the official calendar, there will be two new destinations for F1 in 2008.
The urban circuit of Valencia in Spain will host a Formula 1 event for the first time as part of the European Grand Prix on August 24th.
« On a certain level, I quite like street circuits because they are, simply put, more enjoyable to drive, » said BMW Sauber driver Nick Heidfeld.
« On the other hand, the risk factor is much higher. So it’s 50/50! »
The few elements of the projects I have seen from the Valencia Grand Prix seem very interesting to me, but one can only have a good impression after having tested the circuit, he added.
2008 will also be the scene of another even more breathtaking event as, for the first time, the city-state of Singapore in Southeast Asia will host the 11 teams and 22 F1 cars.
This event will be an important novelty as on September 28, the Singapore Grand Prix is scheduled to become the very first night race in the history of Formula 1.
« The night race in Singapore will certainly be something very special, » explained the German.
« Without a doubt, I am a night person, so I am really looking forward to this event. The atmosphere in the stands will undoubtedly be phenomenal. »
