The McLaren-Mercedes test driver Pedro de la Rosa believes that the ban on traction control, which is now in effect, will not change much in F1.

Traction control is therefore banned starting in 2008, and several F1 race drivers will, for the first time in their careers, drive without driving aids.

However, De la Rosa believes that the drivers will quickly adapt to this new constraint and the lap times will be similar to those of last year.

« Regulations change from year to year. I don’t think the absence of anti-skid will make a big difference, » said de la Rosa at the launch of the new McLaren.

« We quickly get used to what is given to us, and lap times will be similar. »

Gary Paffett from McLaren has conducted enough tests in the development of the 2008 single-seater to make the absence of traction control as imperceptible as possible.

« The biggest change is that Pedro himself talks about electronics! » said Paffett.

« This new constraint has somewhat changed our approach. We conducted a large number of tests in the development of the new McLaren at the technology center. De la Rosa has already tested without traction control and did very well. »

« It is the same as before. We just need to improve our development and make the package as competitive as possible. »
