The Force India team seems to have confirmed Giancarlo Fisichella for the 2008 season in the second seat. An official announcement will put an end to any possible rumors on Thursday.

The Italian would thus be named race driver alongside the German driver Adrian Sutil, who has already been confirmed by the team based in Silverstone.

There were several candidates for the position, but Fisichella emerged as a strong favorite for the spot following the private tests in Jerez. He was let go by Renault a few weeks ago and had been looking for another employer since.

Force India should announce its driver line-up on January 10 at 7 p.m. Indian time. It is expected that Vijay Mallya, co-owner of the team, will reveal one of the last questions concerning the 2008 drivers through a live webcast.

For his part, Vitantonio Liuzzi would also be appointed within the Indian team as a test driver.

The billionaire declared: « For one of the drivers, this will be a real opportunity. »

« We are not where we would like to be at the moment, but we will move forward with a rapid pace of progress, » he added.
