Ben Hanley will drive in GP2 this 2008 season with Campos Racing, the team announced.
The British driver, who is part of the ‘Renault Driver Development’ program, competed in the World Series by Renault over the past two years and finished his 2007 season as a challenger. He will participate in 2008 in his first season in this category, a stepping stone to Formula 1.
Hanley has already tested for Campos at Paul Ricard this winter, but he believes that his new team will need to make many improvements to hope to compete with the leaders.
« The pre-season tests are going to be extremely valuable, » said Hanley this week in Autosport magazine. « The team and I have a lot of work to do to win races. »
« Furthermore, we will need to be in harmony immediately between the team and myself. This way, we will be 100% efficient right away. »
Hanley will be the second driver for Campos in 2008. He will be joined by Russian Vitaly Petrov. The latter was already a Campos driver in 2007 and had shown all his talent by winning a race in Valencia at the end of last season.
