A podium or podiums for Toyota in 2008?

Jarno Trulli believes it is realistic to think that Toyota could secure several podiums this year, after an extremely disastrous 2007 campaign.

The team has high hopes with their new TF108. Trulli is just as optimistic as the Japanese manufacturer, considering that a big step forward can be achieved in 2008.

« Finishing on the podium is always possible and realistic. It is clear that we must be cautious and not be a bit too optimistic. F1 is a very tough sport and we should not expect to suddenly be above the rest, » stated the Italian.

« We must remain humble and acknowledge that we have work to do to catch up to the top-tier teams. But I believe we can bounce back and score points regularly if we do good work over the winter. This means that we can sometimes expect a few podium finishes.

When asked if he thought Toyota has the necessary potential to succeed, he stated: « I am sure of that. It is a very dedicated team with some very good people and we have great potential. »

« We know that we still have a lot of work to do to reach our goals, but it is certain that our potential allows us to hope for great success in F1. I am optimistic about the future. »

Trulli says he is optimistic for the new year because he believes Toyota has learned from the difficulties of the last season.

« You are always learning in life, and well in F1, it’s the same thing. Last season was difficult for us, but we know why. There are still many areas where we need to improve. Sometimes, in 2007 our pace was very good, but we couldn’t achieve consistent results with this performance factor. »

« There were many small things that cost us positions on the grid. For example, the problems I had a number of times at the start of the race. But when you realize something, you can only improve afterward. I hope we can avoid these kinds of problems next year, » concluded Trulli.
