Bernie Ecclestone could be the next Briton from the F1 world to be knighted by the Queen.
The F1 chief executive, who is 77 years old, could follow in the footsteps of Sir Frank Williams, Sir Jack Brabham, Sir Stirling Moss, and Sir Jackie Stewart, if the prediction from the Swiss newspaper Blick proves accurate.
Following the recent release of the list of ‘nominees’, the next Briton to be honored with this title will be on the Queen’s birthday in June.
However, Ecclestone recently stated in an interview that he might not accept such an honor.
In fact, in 1996, Ecclestone refused to be proclaimed Commander of the British Empire (CBE) for his services to motorsport.
« I would really like to be sure that I deserve this title before it’s offered to me, » he said.
