After losing the battle against Fisichella for the last vacant F1 seat at Force India, Christian Klien was called up by the Austrian army to complete his six months of mandatory military service in 2008.
According to Austrian sources, the former Jaguar, Red Bull, and Honda driver must appear before the authorities in Vorarlberg, the western province that is home to his hometown of Hohenems.
However, Klien, 24 years old, living on the Swiss border, has asked the Austrian authorities for an exemption from military service.
The Austrian army refused this request, confirming that he had to do his military service at the Vorarlberg barracks in March.
Klien was in Portugal this week for testing with a Mercedes-Benz with a view to a possible driver position in the DTM championship.
Some rumors claim that this military service could be postponed if he obtains another job in motorsports in 2008.
