Felipe Massa from Ferrari has vowed not to change his approach in racing. This year, he is in pursuit of his first drivers’ title.
The Brazilian finished in fourth position last year, which is a very good performance, but compared to his teammate Kimi Räikkönen, he was a notch below, especially in the last races of the season.
Massa won three races in 2007, but he believes he wasn’t lucky enough to be able to contend in the championship.
« If we look at last year’s championship, at the Monza Grand Prix, I had seven more points than Kimi, and I was fighting as much as the other concerned drivers to win the ultimate title, » said Massa during testing in Valencia.
But I had a problem in Monza and I lost all my chances. I don’t think my championship was bad. On the contrary, I think it was very good and I will try to do the same thing next year.
« To win the championship you need a fast car, but you also have to be lucky. I think the latter was missing for me last year. So, I’m not going to change my approach for this year, » he continued.
The Ferrari driver also admitted that he is satisfied with the progress of the F2008 in testing.
« I think we made many improvements compared to last year’s car because we wanted more, » added the Brazilian.
« But I think we are heading in the right direction. It is very important to cover a large number of kilometers with the two new cars. »
« So, in the end, I am quite happy. Of course, we want more; we want to make the car even faster and even more consistent, but we are working even harder to seek improvement in all areas. »
