Nick Fry, CEO of the Honda F1 team, excused Rubens Barrichello for not scoring any points in 2007. Fry explained that the Brazilian, one of the oldest drivers still active, was lacking motivation last season. This was compounded by the low performance level of the RA107.

The 35-year-old man has competed in over 250 Grand Prix in his career and will surpass Ricardo de Patrese’s record of 256 races this year.

Fry therefore had the duty to remobilize his drivers or at least Barrichello during the Valencia tests where the new RA108 was on track. The comparison between the latter and Button is unnecessary for the director of the Japanese team. The Briton scored all of Honda’s points last season (6).

« Jenson is totally committed and going full throttle from the first corner and all the time, » Fry stated in the columns of The Guardian newspaper.

As for Rubens, I believe he still has plenty of qualities and great potential. But I recognize that after 15 years in Formula 1, when we presented him with a car that was quite limited in terms of performance, it’s sometimes hard to maximize motivation.
