Despite two incidents in Valencia, on Day 3 Mark Webber declared himself happy with the 2008 car, the RB4.
The Australian driver finished the 2007 season in twelfth place in the drivers’ championship. Adrian Newey, who had designed the RB3, had nonetheless described it as unreliable.
Webber, 31, said at the Spanish test circuit that the new single-seater, which finished in eighth position on Wednesday, seems to have taken a step forward in terms of performance.
« Now, we must work with what we have acquired so far and progress as much as possible before Melbourne, » he said.
Less impressive on Wednesday was the pace of the new Toyota TF108.
Rubens Barrichello avoided the last place with the new RA108, finishing second to last. It will be a long road for Honda!
Renault, for its part, began working on the configuration of its R28, but Fernando Alonso remained fairly reserved, finishing sixth among the 17 drivers involved.
The improvement of the car will be an ongoing task that will continue during the next test sessions, the Spaniard argued.
