Flavio Briatore hinted that he might leave Formula 1 and Renault at the end of the 2009 season.
The head of the Renault team, who recently demonstrated his skills as a good negotiator by bringing double world champion Fernando Alonso back into the team, said he would consider leaving the sport at the same time Alonso leaves the team. The latter has a two-year contract that runs until the end of 2009.
« I invested a lot in F1 and received fabulous things in return. I think I will end this adventure with Renault at the same time as Fernando Alonso. I could then take a little break, » he said in the columns of the Spanish daily Marca.
Briatore has, to his credit, four constructors’ titles won during his Formula 1 career.
In 1994 and 1995, he led Benetton which won the title with Michael Schumacher as the driver, while in 2005 and 2006, he was the team manager at Renault.
