Romain Grosjean had a very good performance by winning once again this weekend in Dubai for the first GP2 ASIA event. The young French rookie thus achieves a historic double in the category and impresses…

The test driver of the ING Renault F1 Team made headlines again today by starting from the eighth position (reverse grid of the race 1 finish) and gradually overtaking his competitors to find himself in 1st position with 10 laps to go.

On his 2008 GP2 version with ART Grand Prix, Grosjean benefited from several circumstances. He indeed gained three places right from the start by taking advantage of the safety car’s entry during a collision between the first and second, Adrian Valles and Sebastien Buemi, to move closer to victory.

After just a few laps in 5th position, the Frenchman benefited from Filippi’s retirement (in second position) to gain a place. He then took advantage at the re-start over Chandhok.

At this stage of the race, there were only two drivers left for the Frenchman to overtake. Fauzy and Yoshimoto. The Japanese driver, after being hindered by a driver exiting the pits, was easily overtaken by Grosjean, allowing him to take the lead just a few laps later over Fauzy. The Indian regained first place a few laps later, but the decisive Grosjean took advantage of all Fauzy’s mistakes to clinch a second victory in two GP2 Asia races, setting a new record.

Chandhok, by overtaking Yoshimoto, finally finishes on the podium, despite starting from pole position.
