The head of the GP2 team bearing his name, Adrian Campos, has ruled out any rapprochement with Formula 1 in the near future, despite a recent financial boost…
Indeed, the Campos team was renamed Barwa International following significant investments from a Qatari company.
The Spanish team has been linked to the world of F1 after the Super-Aguri team boss, Suzuki, opened talks last year with businessman Alejandro Agag, one of the main shareholders of the Campos team.
But despite the new financial structure strengthened by this Qatari company, Campos stated that he is not thinking about Formula 1 at the moment.
« Public opinion wants to see us move up to a higher category, but for now, our priority is to win the GP2 title, » stated the Spaniard in an interview for the newspaper El Mundo.
« There is no doubt that we will be interested in any possibility that may arise, but it is not always possible to respond favorably. »
« F1 is very complex and for now it remains very closed, » he added.
Campos, who was the manager of the double world champion Fernando Alonso, is full of hope because there will be more Spaniards among the F1 drivers in the future.
« At the moment, the shadow of Fernando Alonso over F1 is very large. We have Fernando and the fans want to be with him. This makes the situation difficult for the next generation of Iberians. »
« Nevertheless, I am convinced that there are future drivers who are improving day by day and who will have their chance, and some of them have already had it. »
