BMW will have two test drivers in 2008!

The BMW Sauber team has decided to take two test drivers for the 2008 season.

Indeed, in this position will be Christian Klien, who will also be the reserve driver, and Marko Asmer, considered the second test driver due to his young age.

Klien raced for Jaguar Racing and Red Bull Racing during the 2005 and 2006 seasons, and joined BMW after a year spent at Honda as a test driver. Asmer is the reigning British Formula 3 champion.

“We wanted a third Formula 1 race driver with experience as well as a young driver whom we can train,” said BMW motorsport director Mario Theissen.

Christian is a driver who is well-acquainted with the concept of Grand Prix. Therefore, if Heidfeld or Kubica encounter any mishaps, he can replace them in the position of race driver.

Marko has driven our car on four occasions since December and has made steady progress. The engineers’ reactions to him are largely positive, and the chemistry between him and the team is on the verge of bearing fruit.

Klien, an Austrian national who raced in Formula BMW in 1999, stated about his new position with BMW Sauber that it was somewhat of a comeback.

“I’m really happy to be part of the team in 2008 and to remain in this great family that is F1,” said the 25-year-old man.

The Estonian Asmer added: « I have always dreamed of an opportunity to enter Formula One. Naturally, I would do everything possible to avoid making mistakes and to do a good job. I learned a lot during the tests in Jerez and Valencia, but also as a spectator and observer. »
