Plans to secure the future of the British Grand Prix at Silverstone on the official calendar have progressed following the adoption of a development plan by the Northamptonshire council advisory committee.

This development plan sets forth the vision for the circuit with land use and the construction of necessary infrastructure.

The redevelopment of the Silverstone circuit includes two new hotels, an exhibition and conference center, a high-tech park, and a set of residential buildings on land around the site.

A new complex for the paddocks has also been proposed.

A request for planning the work for the new paddocks is being finalized and should be made public in the spring of 2008.

« The adoption of this development plan means that for the first time in its long and illustrious history, Silverstone is being considered as a whole, with an eye towards what it can offer the UK, » said Spencer Canning, the development director at Silverstone.

« It is an important step towards creating a world-class site for motor sports. »

The decision made also demonstrates the enthusiasm and dedication of all the agencies and organizations that have worked on this crucial step. That is to say, the local authorities, the Southeast England Development Agency, the regional councils of Buckinghamshire and Northamptonshire, and finally the government.
