The FIA welcomed the initiatives taken by the Spanish motorsport federation (RFEA) to ensure that last weekend’s events, particularly the racist insults, are not repeated.

These have targeted Lewis Hamilton, but the governing body is waiting to see what happens during the next tests and will then be able to verify the impact of the preventive measures that will have been taken.

Although the final report from the RFEA on the matter has not yet been released, the FIA has expressed its utmost confidence in the Spanish federation to resolve the issue by next week’s test session in Jerez.

« We have not yet received a full report, but we have received precise information from the circuit and sports authorities in Spain that measures are and will be put in place to prevent any repetition of these racist insults, » said an FIA spokesperson to The Guardian.

« This form of violence is a criminal offense under Spanish law and the authorities will not hesitate to act if necessary. »

« The concept of zero tolerance has been well received by the FIA, and we will closely monitor what happens in the future. Everything will be done to ensure there are no events similar to those in Barcelona, » continued the spokesperson.

Racism has no place in motorsports, and racists will not be allowed to hold our sport hostage in front of millions of fans around the world.

The FIA reacted very quickly to the scenes of racism during the Barcelona tests with a clear warning about the sanctions that would be taken if such incidents were to occur again. Furthermore, the European Grand Prix in Valencia and the Spanish Grand Prix in Barcelona could have been canceled and removed from the official calendar.
