Ralf Schumacher took another step towards the DTM!

Ralf Schumacher conducted new tests in DTM with the Mercedes team yesterday. It seems that the German is getting closer and closer to securing a race driver position for the 2008 season.

« I wouldn’t be here behind the wheel of a DTM car if it wasn’t a pleasure for me. And it goes without saying that I am seriously considering being present for this racing season, » said Schumacher in the columns of Bild Zeitung.

« Now, I want to use every minute given to me to get to know the car even better, » he said.

If Schumacher ends up driving for Mercedes in DTM in 2008, he will do so with a 2007 Mercedes C-Class.

« If there is cooperation in the coming weeks, I would drive one of the 2007 cars. After all, I am a novice in DTM and I still have a lot to learn, and I especially need to get used to the race car. And you don’t need a new car for that. In a learning year, winning races is not the goal. »

The head of Mercedes Motorsport, Norbert Haug, states that the decision regarding Ralf Schumacher’s presence at Mercedes will not be made until February.

« I suppose that the decision will be made in February. If Ralf is interested and wants to go further, there is nothing that will prevent a cooperation from being formed, » stated Haug.
