Giancarlo Fisichella is satisfied with the progress made by the Force India team on the new car, even though he has only joined them for a few weeks.
The team based in Silverstone has provided for this year 2008 a single-seater almost equivalent to that of last year (a B car). The reason is simple, as the team continues to work on its 2009 car.
Fisichella thinks that the VJM01 has the potential to help the team move forward.
« Since I started driving the car, we have made considerable progress, especially in terms of the car’s setup, » the Italian stated to Gazzetta dello Sport.
« Force India has great potential and there will be a new aerodynamic package that will be tested during the Barcelona tests. »
The budget is adequate, there is the structure and the right people. The 2009 car is already in development. I want to grow with this team and participate in F1 races for a few more years.
« It is actually about progressively improving the VJM01 so that we move away from the last positions, where we will obviously be at the start, » he explained.
Fisichella joined Force India after three years with Renault, and the Roman admits he hoped to stay with the French team to be rewarded for his work.
« Flavio Briatore recalled Alonso. I think my contract should have been extended and with Fernando we could have rebuilt the dream team as we knew it in 2005 and 2006. Piquet was preferred: that’s the team’s vision! »
