Lewis Hamilton was honored this week during the independence celebrations in Grenada, a Caribbean island. He received an ambassador award for his efforts in Formula 1 last year.
The McLaren driver, whose paternal grandparents are from Grenada, was of course present at this party celebrating the 34th anniversary of the country’s independence.
In the presence of Governor General Sir Daniel Williams, and Prime Minister Keith Mitchell, Hamilton declared at a press conference that he was extremely touched by the support of this country which warmly welcomed him during his visit.
Previously, Mitchell had indicated that the state of Grenada had a new favorite in Hamilton and that the island’s inhabitants held him dear to their hearts.
« Grenadians are very proud of you. Everywhere, people are happy about your visit, » declared Mitchell about Hamilton during a ceremony at the international airport.
