The organizers of the Bahrain Grand Prix have made it clear that they do not plan to turn their event into a night race, despite weekend reports suggesting they were not opposed to the idea.
It is Shaikh Salman himself who told the Gulf Daily News that he was open to the idea of a night race.
But, in a statement released in response to these words, the organizers of the Sakhir Grand Prix insist that the approval of the night race concept does not mean that they themselves are seeking to become one of these trendy events.
« Bahrain International Circuit wishes to clarify its position regarding the possibility of a night race in the future. »
« Unfortunately, the remarks made by the chief operator, Shaikh Salman, were taken out of context and although the concept of a night race is extremely interesting, it is not on the agenda for the Sakhir circuit. »
« The figures shown in terms of audience share and viewers in Europe and Asia for the Bahrain Grand Prix are among the highest of the year. »
« Consequently, we are not having any ongoing discussions to transform our event into a night race. »
« Like the rest of the world, we are eagerly anticipating the Singapore Grand Prix in September, which is the pioneer in night racing in Formula 1. »
