Jenson Button is confident that Honda Racing can deliver better results in 2008 despite tests with their new RA108 that have proven inconclusive.
The team hopes to erase the memories of a 2007 campaign considered by many as disastrous.
But despite this poor start, Button believes that his team knows what it has to do to ramp up the machine, he also thinks that the RA108 is in a good dynamic.
« With the new RA108, we are starting from scratch in terms of development and setup, » he stated on the official Formula 1 website.
« We are also working on the driving behavior that we need to adapt in response to the new generation ECU electronic control unit. »
« These challenges were felt in our speed during our initial tests in Barcelona, particularly on the fast laps, but our long-term consistency is improving. We have a car that is originally good with new opportunities in aerodynamics.
He added: « We have a lot of work to do to achieve our goals and obviously things won’t be resolved overnight. We have very competent people on the team, and I have complete confidence that we will make progress throughout the year. »
Button refused to make any predictions about what the team can achieve during the 2008 season.
« We have some important tests coming up in the next few days, and answering this question would be a matter of chance, » he said when asked if he was betting on a race win this year.
