Jarno Trulli believes it is unrealistic to expect Toyota to be able to fight for one or more podiums during the 2008 season.

Let’s take a quick look at the situation: Not only is Ferrari not comparable to us, but also McLaren, Trulli said to Autosprint magazine.

« So, talking about podiums for Toyota is completely unrealistic, » added the Italian who, however, believes his team is in a better position than last year.

« Compared to 2007, the car has improved overall in terms of both reliability and performance with worn tires. This latter point had been our main problem. »

Compared to the problems BMW is currently experiencing, maybe it is possible for us to enter the second category of teams, with Renault, BMW, and Williams, but it is impossible to do better than that.

« The behavior of the Ferrari on the track is depressing! It can brake anywhere but especially accelerate at any point on a circuit, » he said.

Toyota had a poor season in 2007 and has not been on a podium since 2006.

The Japanese team and Ferrari spent six days testing last week at the Sakhir circuit in Bahrain. And unsurprisingly, the Ferraris proved to be much faster than the Toyotas throughout the six days. Trulli believes that the Scuderia is clearly ahead of all its competitors.

In my opinion, even compared to McLaren, it is at least half a second faster per lap. I think the championship is already decided even before the season starts, concluded Trulli.
