Former Ferrari mechanic Nigel Stepney said he was eager to explain his version of events regarding last year’s espionage case to the FIA. He will be able to do so very soon at an extraordinary hearing.
Stepney will have to answer for his involvement in this case to the FIA legal department. Then, it will be up to the director of the organization to decide whether or not he should be punished.
The meeting had been scheduled for the beginning of the month but had to be canceled due to unforeseen circumstances.
Before this, Stepney spoke freely through a statement:
Despite having had to endure months of unfounded allegations, Mr. Stepney has maintained a dignified silence, knowing that one day he would be able to explain his position and offer a perspective based on more than 30 years of a career in F1.
He was ready to do it at the FIA disciplinary hearing scheduled for Thursday, February 7, in London.
« Unfortunately, the FIA’s legal team was unable to attend this hearing, citing flight difficulties. »
As of today, we only know that the hearing will take place after March 7, 2008.
« Mr. Stepney is eager to have the opportunity to present his version of events rather than continuing to endure all kinds of words and rumors that deeply hurt him. »
