The scheduled meeting between the McLaren team and an Italian prosecutor in charge of the espionage investigation will not take place on Monday. No new date has been set at the moment, the prosecutor’s office indicated.
Prosecutor Giuseppe Tibis, based in Modena, was to question a number of McLaren team executives including team principal Ron Dennis. Each of them had to explain their role and their level of involvement in THE scandal of the 2007 season.
The secretary of Tibis stated to Reuters: « The individuals representing the McLaren team will not come. »
McLaren stated last week that their lawyers had received a number of documents from the Modena offices and that these were being reviewed by the lawyers.
The British team suspended its chief designer Mike Coughlan last July after confidential Ferrari technical information was found at his home in England. It was the former Scuderia engineer Nigel Stepney who was the source on the Ferrari side. He has since been dismissed by the team.
McLaren was stripped of all its constructors’ championship points and fined $100 million last September. The International Automobile Federation (FIA) itself handled this case.
Tibis has already interviewed former McLaren driver Fernando Alonso and the team’s test driver Pedro de la Rosa.
