Nico Rosberg of the Williams team claims that his goal for the 2008 season is to do better than last year.
The British team impressed during the winter tests with the power of its FW30 equipped with a Toyota engine. This suggests that Williams could be one of the surprises of the year.
However, Rosberg does not want to make predictions and says he simply hopes to make a step forward in 2008.
« My only goal is to do better than last year, » he confessed to Autosprint magazine.
The German driver who speaks French very well finished in ninth place in the 2007 championship, scoring 20 points.
A few months ago, some rumors suggested he was headed to McLaren after making a strong impression in 2007. Today, he asserts that he never had discussions with the team and that he is happy to stay with Williams.
« Now, I can say it: nothing ever happened with McLaren. I’m happy that Frank kept me. »
Rosberg, GP2 champion in 2005, believes that the absence of traction control this year will not significantly impact the running order in 2008.
« I have heard all sorts of things about driving without traction control, such as the fact that rookies coming from GP2 would be at a disadvantage or, on the contrary, have an advantage, » he added.
« The truth is that after ten laps, I had already realized what I had to do. On dry surfaces, it will be the same. On the contrary, in the rain and during starts or in the first corners, there will be a difference. »
In normal conditions, the driver will not count more than before, even if we will see a greater number of errors.
« In a braking situation, the lack of anti-skid will be felt. This could give us a bit more chances for overtaking, » concluded Nico Rosberg.
