Tests – Audi does not win all the trophies…

For this first day of testing (Warm-up) at Hockenheim, Audi didn’t achieve a flawless performance despite the presence of its new cars. Nonetheless, the results remain convincing.

The four 2008 version cars came out on top after the first testing session that was dry. In the afternoon, despite a relatively high level of performance, it was Paul di Resta in a Mercedes who set the fastest time before the conditions deteriorated. Once the rain started to fall, Audi was unable to regain the upper hand.

But the head of Audi Sport, Wolfgang Ullrich, believes that no judgment can be made before qualifying to know which team will be the fastest this weekend.

« Things have gone well so far, » he commented.

« But everyone is concerned with managing their own schedule. »

« It is pointless to try making comparisons with Mercedes, only during the qualifiers will we truly see the speeds of each. »

Martin Tomczyk, who was the fastest during the first testing session in dry conditions, believes that Mercedes could be held back until the first competitive session of the year.

“We had no problems this Friday, but we must not deceive ourselves,” the German said.

Mercedes will probably have a few cards to play during the qualifications. But for our part, we know where we stand and how fast our cars can go. It was a very fruitful day for the team.
