Jarno Trulli dedicated his podium at the French Grand Prix to former Toyota team boss Ove Andersson, who was killed during a vintage car rally earlier in the month.
The Italian driver reconnects with the feeling of a podium for the first time since 2005 and the Spanish Grand Prix. He finishes in third place at the 2008 Magny-Cours race.
This result is also the first podium for Toyota since 2006 and the Australian Grand Prix.
Trulli said, “It’s a very good result and a great weekend by the whole team. We wanted to dedicate this result to Ove Andersson, who did so much for Toyota Motorsport.”
The Italian driver had to fend off Heikki Kovalainen during the final part of the race, with the duo even making contact on the penultimate lap.
« Today it was a great race, tough and difficult. We had a good pace even though we had big battles with some cars that were faster than us, » he added.
« I had to fight very hard but that’s what people should expect from both myself and Toyota. When the rain appeared towards the end, I didn’t take gloves because it’s always difficult to judge the track when you’re in front. »
« The team made no mistakes this weekend, from the mechanics at the factory designing the new parts on the car to the flawless mechanics that keep improving. »
« There is still a lot to do but today, we can be very satisfied. The team did an excellent job, the car is much more competitive, and everyone is motivated. Things are moving, » affirmed Trulli.
The president of the Toyota team, John Howett, added: « It’s a fantastic day for everyone connected with Toyota Motorsport. This is our first podium in a few months. »
« Congratulations to all those who work tirelessly to improve the car. »
