The weight of the single-seaters for the Italian Grand Prix

Since the 2009 season, the FIA has made the weight of the cars public, with the fuel load easily calculated, following the Saturday qualifying session.

Here is the weight of each qualifying car for the Italian Grand Prix, sorted in ascending order. In addition, the exact amount of fuel has been added as well as the driver’s position on the starting grid of the race. This is to observe the different strategies.

No surprise as the top 10 qualifiers of the day have the least fuel. Heikki Kovalainen had a very good qualifying session since he’s carrying no less than 30 kg more than Hamilton and Sutil, which means about ten more laps. One might think that Räikkönen is well placed, but it is known that the Ferrari engine is more fuel-consuming than other engines, so he is on the same strategy as the two front-row drivers.

Several drivers are expected to make only one pit stop. This is the case for Alguersuari, Buemi, Rosberg, Nakajima, and especially Glock, whose cars weigh over 700kg, more than 100kg of which is just fuel.
