Since the 2009 season, the FIA has made the weight of the cars public, with the fuel load being easily calculated, following the Saturday qualifying session.
Here is the weight of each qualifying car for the Japanese Grand Prix, sorted in ascending order. Additionally, the exact amount of fuel has been added, as well as the driver’s position on the starting grid. This is to observe the different strategies.
The various grid penalties that were imposed after qualifying have completely disrupted the fuel strategies. We can still notice that the drivers who participated in Q3 are the ones with the lightest fuel loads. The exceptions are Rosberg and Kubica, who have indeed benefited from the penalties. They are at the front of the grid with a lot of fuel.
The two drivers are undoubtedly on a one-stop strategy, and it is Romain Grosjean who is carrying the most fuel for the race that will start tomorrow at 07:00 French time.
