Ross Brawn thinks that Jenson Button’s future in Formula 1 would be more prolific by staying with the team that made him world drivers’ champion, rather than seeing him with McLaren. Despite contract signing speculations between Button and McLaren, Brawn remains inflexible on the team where the Brit should drive in 2010.

« Negotiations [with Button] are ongoing, and reports that he has already accepted McLaren’s terms are not helpful. I would be astonished if that were the case, » said Brawn to the newspaper The Independent.

« His best future is with our team, where he has a good group around him. There is a lot to say about that. It would be logical for him to stay with us, but logic does not always prevail. »

The talks between Button and Ross Brawn somewhat stalled as both parties couldn’t agree on the financial terms for a new contract. Button’s camp remains inflexible on a significant salary increase after this exceptional season for the 2009 world champion. But with tightened finances, even after its buyout by Mercedes-Benz, Brawn GP couldn’t settle on a figure before McLaren entered the fray.

McLaren seems determined to finalize a deal with Button after breaking off talks with Kimi Räikkönen, who eventually decided to take a sabbatical in 2010. Mercedes GP will secure the services of Nico Rosberg in one of its cars next season, with rumors suggesting that Nick Heidfeld might take the other seat.
