Ferrari has announced that the Formula 3 Euro Series champion, Jules Bianchi will join the team for the young driver test days in Jerez, Spain next month. Bianchi had been linked to the Scuderia for several weeks, and Ferrari finally confirmed his presence at the Jerez tests on Thursday evening. Bianchi will drive for two days.

After these two days of testing, the top three drivers of the Italian F3 championship, Daniel Zampieri, Marco Zioli, and Pablo Sanchez Lopez, will share the Ferrari F60 on the last day.

Jules Bianchi describes it as surprising to have a chance to make his F1 debut for Ferrari. The 20-year-old Frenchman could even have other opportunities in the future to drive for the Scuderia. By staying focused on trying to win the Macau Grand Prix this weekend, Bianchi admitted on Friday that he was thrilled to be invited to these tests.

« I am really happy. It’s a very good thing for me to drive an F1, and especially a Ferrari, because it’s the best team in the world. I will do my best and I will learn because the most important thing at my age is to learn. »

« Of course, it’s excellent news. For me, driving an F1 for the first time, and what’s more, a Ferrari, is simply incredible. I have no other words, » he added.

I am so happy, but I want to stay focused on the Macau race because it’s really important to get a good result here. That’s why I’m focusing on this event, and when I get home, I can concentrate on my tests in Jerez. It will be very important to approach these two days of testing step by step. We will need to do many laps without mistakes.

When asked if he felt there was a chance that these tests could lead to more with Ferrari, possibly being part of the new development program for young drivers, Bianchi said: « Maybe. Maybe yes, maybe not. It’s not certain. I’m doing this test and then we’ll see what happens. »

Finally, the Frenchman also paid tribute to the efforts made by his manager Nicolas Todt: « Nicolas did everything. If I can do this test, it’s thanks to him, because he did a very good job. Since my beginnings, he has helped me do everything and placed me in the best teams. He has helped me a lot. »
