Alexander Rossi and Esteban Gutierrez will make their Formula 1 debuts next week during the Jerez tests with the team formerly known as BMW-Sauber. The former team had promised tests to the two drivers who respectively won the Formula BMW World Final and the European Final in 2008. This promise was made before the German manufacturer decided to leave the sport.
BMW Motorsport director, Mario Theissen, declared that he would honor his commitment regarding these two drivers: Depriving these young drivers of a test event in F1 would not do them any service even if BMW leaves the world of Formula 1, admitted the German.
« BMW remains committed to motorsport and is eager to continue contributing to the development of recognized talent. »
This year, Rossi secured three fourth-place finishes in Formula Master while Gutierrez finished ninth in the F3 Euro Series.
