Felipe Massa achieved an impressive victory on the second day of a karting event, the International Challenge of Go-Kart Champions held in Florianopolis, Brazil. It is an event that, as every year, brings together several big names in motorsports, including: Christian Fittipaldi, Rubens Barrichello, Nelson Piquet, Antonio Pizzonia, Enrique Bernoldi, Tarso Marques, Ricardo Zonta, Luciano Burti, Tony Kanaan, Vitor Meira, Mario Moraes, and Raphaël Matos.
Massa beat his former Ferrari teammate, Michael Schumacher, today by just 0.087 seconds. It was the Brazilian’s first official race appearance since his terrible accident during the summer.
Yesterday, on the first day, it was the seven-time F1 World Champion who finished first ahead of Force India’s driver, Tonio Liuzzi, and Massa, who came in third. The latter had started 11th and secured his place on the podium at the expense of Lucas di Grassi. The battle was expected to be tough today between the famous German and the Ferrari driver.
The combination of a victory and a second place makes Michael Schumacher the outright champion of the annual event, ahead of Massa. Rubens Barrichello led the first laps today but eventually finished fourth overall behind IndyCar driver Vitor Meira.
