Renault has undertaken a reshuffle of its technical department following the events of recent months such as the ‘crashgate’ and the suspension of Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds considered as early departures. Just before the Singapore Grand Prix, technical director Bob Bell was promoted to team principal to replace Briatore, who resigned following the scandal of the 2008 Singapore GP.
No decision had been made to immediately replace Bell, but the team has now decided that James Allison will be promoted to deputy technical director. This announcement suggests that Bell will retain his role as team principal in the future, rather than returning to his former position.
Renault has also promoted team manager Steven Nielsen to the role of sporting director to help take on some of the responsibilities that were under Symonds’ domain. The team based in Enstone also confirmed that automotive technology director Tad Czapski, who was also in charge of vehicle dynamics and electronics, will soon be leaving his position.
