Renowned team Mercedes, the name change of the defending world champion, Brawn GP, has been officially ratified by the Formula 1 Commission. Any name change must receive unanimous approval from the rest of the teams. The new name was adopted during the Commission meeting yesterday.
She also decided that Mercedes would receive the money and benefits won by Brawn GP this year. This change of ownership could have been seen as a new transaction, in which case it would not have benefited from Brawn GP.
« The team will continue to receive payments based on its past performances, » the FIA said in a statement. « This was granted on an exceptional ad hoc basis due to Mercedes-Benz’s long-term commitment in Formula 1.
Nick Fry, the CEO of Mercedes GP, declared yesterday that he never doubted the decision of the Commission for this name change: The reaction we received from most of the other teams is positive. Why would someone not want to see the name Mercedes appear? It is, I think, one of the top three brand names in the world. Having its own chassis will be something interesting to see.
