The three-time Formula 1 world champion, Ayrton Senna, has been voted the greatest Formula 1 driver of all time in a unique survey conducted among 217 drivers who have participated at least once in the world championship. This survey was conducted by the magazine Autosport.

Senna beat Michael Schumacher and Juan Manuel Fangio for the first place in this unique poll, which is the largest ever conducted in the history of F1.

The interviewed drivers have a combined total of 9,194 race starts and 270 victories, including many drivers from the world championship.

Among the voters, we found Michael Schumacher, statistically the most crowned F1 driver in history, Jose Froilan Gonzalez, the oldest Grand Prix winner, Paul Pietsch, who at 98, is the oldest living driver. Not to mention the reigning world champion, Jenson Button, and a large part of the current Formula 1 grid.

Autosport asked each voter to present their top 10 greatest F1 drivers, knowing that the criteria for “greatest” was open to interpretation: “This is an astonishing survey that has never been done before,” said a representative of Autosport.

« Obviously, this study has highlighted some interesting and unexpected results, but no one can dispute the way this top 10 was developed, or the integrity of the poll. »
