The Stefan Grand Prix programs in Formula 1 for 2010 could be funded through a young driver development program. These drivers might be interested in covering many kilometers on a F1 track.
The Serbian team, which is still aiming to be part of the grid this year but will only conduct tests if it does not get an entry, has already reached a preliminary agreement with the former Toyota team to use its car and other facilities.
No further details are expected before the official launches at the end of January. In the meantime, the team owner, Zoran Stefanovich, has revealed his financing method to cover the expenses.
He claims that with the strict ban on testing during a season, Stefan GP would be able to finance its tests through teams and drivers who would have the privilege of racing for him. Indeed, the team will be outside all restrictions imposed on competing teams.
« We will offer teams, who need to change drivers during the season, or even young drivers themselves, the opportunity to test our car so they can gain experience. It will be a purely commercial operation. »
Stefanovich adds that the team’s first car, based on the 2010 Toyota, passed its last FIA-mandated crash test last week.
